That was the question Dan Einbender wanted to answer back in the 1980s. Getting people to recognize the importance and benefits of recycling was very difficult decades ago. Dan decided to answer the question in song. The words of that song are reproduced below. It has been recorded by other musical activists, including the late great Pete Seeger, and can be found online if you look for it. R.I.P., Dan, we’re using your words to help work the problem!
The singing duo Great Blue (Shirl Lawrence and Steve Kaplan) brought "It Really Isn't Garbage" to Estes Park, where they hope to have it recorded and put on the airwaves to help us all in Estes to Reduce, Reuse and Recyle to help solid waste management work more efficiently.
This song answers the question simply and clearly. If we all do a little free labor and recycle those things we can, we will ALL benefit. The greater the effort, the less we'll have to pay to haul to dispose in the Larimer landfill. The landfill will, in turn, have a longer lifetime!
